I love Starbucks and the Universe

I love going into Starbucks and ordering my favorite drink. If you have one of there cards, you get free songs, apps and other bonus items. The other day, there was a card with info about the free app of the week ... It was Brian Cox's Wonders of the Universe. So, I tried it. I was completely blown away. This is perhaps the best app I have every used on the iPad and iPhone. It is an interactive tour of reality ... namely ones ability to navigate from sub atomic particles (quarks) to the full universe. What I really like is that is gives you perspective and allows you to appreciate scale.

Scale is often misunderstood. After all, its hard to portray even the solar system in a book, because you need to get all of the planets into a very small space. So what happens is that we distort reality to fill the format. The end result ... lack of perspective and scale. Whether its the size and scope of the universe or our understanding of an exponential changing environment ... scale must be understood to get an accurate view.

Wonders of the Universe features video commentary about places you explore in the app from Brian Cox's award-winning BBC series (of the same name) and 210 full-color articles to browse. As you explore, there are hundreds of images you can refer to for more information as well. But whether you're exploring the content point by point, or simply jumping around to different parts of the universe, the app is a joy to use and looks amazing on the iPad 2 -- and even better on the new iPad.

Get this app ... you wont be sorry.
